Donna Karan New York, a.k.a DKNY, started in 1989 as a diffusion line for Donna Karan, a label that was started by its namesake in 1985. Donna Karan cut her teeth with Anne Klein in the 1970s before going out on her own in the 80s. She is known for having a workable style aesthetic, for making clothing that is comfortable as well as good looking, and for designing accessories that real women and men rely on for function and form. The legions of people who have worn DKNY jeans until they fall apart are a testament to the genius of DKNY and its founder.
Karan is still on the board of directors at Donna Karan and DKNY, but does not design for either label except on special occasions. After recruiting American designer Peter Speliopoulos away from Cerruti and putting him to work as head of design, she left the company in very capable hands when she retired in 1997. The great thing about Donna Karan and DKNY is that she's happy to leave the design flights of fancy to the Jean-Paul Gaultiers and Donatella Versaces of the world, while her company makes actual clothing and accessories that very real people covet and love for years. Her line of sunglasses is no exception as you can see here. Quality, affordability, and pure fashion are what the DKNY sunglasses collection brings you.
The DY4064 338111 is a whole lotta numbers that stand for gorgeous women's sunglasses in a luscious violet colored frame with gray gradient lenses. It's a fairly shallow rectangle, very professional and confident looking. You can also get it in a rich brown sable frame with brown gradient lenses, and a glossy black frame with gray gradient lenses. The DY4065 model is similar, but in a slightly shallower rectangle that is not turned up slightly at the outer corners the way the DY4064 is. In other words, one or the other will work on just about anyone.
The DY4058 and DY4060 models are DKNY's take on the oversized frames. The DY4060 is a more softly rounded frame, while the DY4058 is the classic large square frame that has been so popular for the past few years. The DY4060 comes in a really nice violet and white frame on the outside, while the frame on the inside is blue. The effect is very subtle and very chic.
Men will like the DY5049 and the DY5053. The DY5049 is a sporty mono-shield type of sunglasses in brown, and the DY5053 is a classic aviator that wraps around slightly. The DY5054 is the classic square aviator that looks great on just about everyone, and the DY5051 is similar but slightly less squared off.
Most people don't think of DKNY clothing or accessories as "statement pieces," which is exactly why so many people like them. They're beautifully crafted and aesthetically great, and like DKNY clothing, they're the sort of thing a person will wear for years and look effortlessly put-together.
